About
The Client had recognised the need to improve transport links between Doha and Mesaieed. The idea was to create a free-flowing path from Mesaieed and Al Wakra city directly to the centre of Doha, without the need to travel through Al Wakra itself.
When the main Contractor encountered financial difficulties, Serin was requested to administer the Contractor's resources and deployed an experienced, hand-picked Project Management team on behalf of the Funder. It took control of the wider project, fully administering the Contractor’s works and responsibilities and ensuring completion in a timely manner.
The ambitious project has profoundly improved the connectivity possibilities in the surrounding area. It includes the upgrade and relocation of utilities, new road lighting, the installation of an Intelligent Transport System, and much-needed stormwater drainage. This project saw the installation of 2,842m of drainage lines, 78,000m of irrigation lines, more than 80,000m of electrical high-voltage cables and 79,000m of medium/low-voltage cables.
The East-West Corridor also links to Al Wakra Bypass Road as part of the Expressway Programme South of Qatar. The Al Wakra Bypass project comprises the construction of 11km of new dual carriageway. It includes five major interchanges and multiple new access roads that will provide access to key highways and residential areas south of Qatar.
